Agency mission
To develop and manage the provision of housing assistance to the Aboriginal community in a manner that delivers accessible, affordable, appropriate and secure housing that meets the social, cultural and economic aspirations of the Victorian Aboriginal community.
Agency history
Aboriginal Housing Victoria (AHV) was the first Aboriginal housing agency to be registered as a housing provider in Victoria. It is also the largest Aborignal Housing agency in Victoria. As at 30 June 2009, it has a portfolio of over 1,500 properties, including 60 properties owned, under its direct tenancy management. During 2008-09, more than 80 per cent of tenants in the Aboriginal Rental Housing Program transferred to AHV. Tenants are assured of access to an Aboriginal landlord and a personalised and culturally sensitive service for Aboriginal people.
